Recruitment: Recruitment in fisheries generally refers to the “graduation” of fish from one life stage to another. Unless otherwise specified, the term recruitment refers to the graduation of fish from the juvenile life history stage when survival is density-dependent, to the sub-adult stage when mortality in density independent.

Recruitment index: usually refers to a statistically calculated metric measuring the relative or absolute numbers of fish recruiting from being juveniles with density dependent mortality to being sub-adults with density-independent mortality.
